Kiwi Ferns v Mate Ma’a (Women)

Sat 21/10, 1.45pm

Some of our key notes for this game are below

  • Kiwis have been reshuffled quite a bit from last week – Cheyelle Robins-Reti’s making her debut on the wing & could have some joy down that side.
  • Annessa Biddle is naturally a centre but she played wing for NZ last week & now she’s a second rower – great player but we wonder what these positional changes will have + they’ve dropped an in-form Albert-Jones to move Biddle there.
  • Plus, there’s no Apii Nicholls at fullback this week who did well defensively v Australia. All this together & Kiwis might be a bit less secure defensively
  • Abigail Roache is into the centres for NZ – super exciting player. We tipped her as an outside chance at a good price for POTM in the GF even before Newcastle won the semi & she’s someone who can score multiple tries a game (scored at least 2 doubles in the NRLW). Great to watch as well – repeatedly pierces backlines when making marauding runs.
  • Tonga have quite a few NRLW players & Tiana Penitani is the star – try scoring threat as a centre for the Sharks & on the wing for NSW (scored in Origin). Definitely the one to watch in this team although she’s named at halfback here for some reason alongside another NRLW player, Tohi-Hiku.
  • We’ve got an eye on China Polata at centre for Tonga as well – really tough tackler at the Cows this year & could probably be a half decent try scorer if given a long rope. The forwards look alright too.
