NRL Round 10 Breakdown: Left v Right Edge Players

NRL Round 10 Breakdown: Left v Right Edge Players

Wicky, NRL Fantasy Scout & Kyle Bedford break down each side’s players by which side of the field they play on for every NRL game in Round 10. Where do teams favour going to in attack? Where do teams leak most tries?

Whether it’s to decide your NRL Fantasy or NRL Supercoach Captain or to lock in the last leg of your multi – we have you covered!

You can check out all of Wicky’s content, tips and more here and you can follow NRL Fantasy Scout on Instagram for regular updates.

Lomax is back on the right wing – if you’re not scared off by the rain, put him in your multis, captain him in your Supercoach, do whatever you want because the Rabbits also happen to concede 45% of their tries on the left!

Roosters v Warriors

Sun 12/5, 2pm

Wicky’s breakdown – Again, heavy track + should be raining. Moving on though! The Warriors have lost 4 on the trot and look disappointing. They’ve scored 8 tries to 2 to their right centre and wingers (DWZ the main target here). Since Metcalf has been replaced by TMM – the right side looks like the only option for the Wahs in attack, with RTS and Montoya barely seeing any space in attack on the left. Middle forwards have scored 6 tries – mainly thanks to AFB. With the Chooks such strong favourites, he could be a value addition to multis or even as a single!

The Roosters’ spread of tries scored is pretty consistent – they’ve got strike across the park. If we had to pick out one strength – their left edge has been humming in recent weeks’ with Angus Crichton back in career best form! Keary and Crichton – feels like it’s 2020 again!

Titans v Cowboys

Sun 12/5, 4.05pm

Wicky’s breakdown – It’s even meant to be raining on the beautiful Gold Coast on Sunday! You don’t even need to look it up – the Titans depend on Foran and David Fifita to create attacking opportunities on the left. Jojo/Sosefo Fifita is the winger on that side. The Titans have also conceded the second most amount of tries to middle forwards to any middle forwards – we have tipped Jaimin Jolliffe in our Punter’s Preview at a juicy price!

The Cowboys have a relatively even spread of tries scored and conceded all across the park. Nanai on the right edge has been lethal in recent weeks. He’ll want to make a mark with David Fifita in dominant form – it’s going to be a tough fight for the edge roles in the Maroons team! Finefeuiaki has looked great on the left edge next to Dearden – whether it’s him or Luki (on the bench, returning from injury) – all 3 of the Cowboys’ back rowers are great ball runners.

Dolphins v Manly

Thu 9/5, 7.50pm

Wicky’s breakdown – Breaking down this game all comes down to where Herbie Farnworth plays! Isaako plays on the right wing for the Dolphins. In 4 games without him, he’s scored 5 tries. Last week he had Averillo on his inside and he scored 3 tries against the Cowboys. In the 4 games when Farnworth was on his inside, he scored 1 try.

Manly have a relatively even spread in attack but the Dolphins do concede noticeably more tries to right side players – which would be Garrick and Saab for Manly!

Panthers v Bulldogs

Fri 10/5, 6pm

Wicky’s breakdown – This game is likely to be played on a heavy track and likely in the rain – but with the Dogs being such strong outsiders with the bookies, Xerri or Addo-Carr could be value options for try scorer plays. Kikau will be up for this battle with his old side and they’ll also be running at Alamoti playing in the foreign position of right centre for the Panthers with Tago out (suspension). The Dogs have scored 48% of their tries on the left edge in 2024, 2nd most of any team on the left side.

The Panthers have scored 10 tries through their right winger (mainly Turuva) v only 3 on their left wing (mainly To’o). 64% of their tries have been scored on their right edge, only second to the Dragons’ 64%. What makes this interesting is Cleary’s missed a few games and they’ve still been right side dominant!

Eels v Broncos

Fri 10/5, 8pm

Wicky’s breakdown – Another game being played in Sydney on a heavy track and likely with rain during the game. The Broncos are missing Adam Reynolds and the Eels are missing Gutho and Moses.

The Broncos have a relatively even spread in attack but the Eels have scored 8 tries through their left winger (mainly Sivo) v 1 on their right wing. They’ve scored 44% of their tries on the left edge v only 22% on the right. The Broncos have leaked 50% of their tries to left edge players – guys like Sivo and Lane could be good options for try scorer plays.

The Eels’ left side has been poor in defence this season and now have Russell at Centre and Sanders in his 2nd game. Walsh will get his hands on the ball more with Reynolds missing and he loves hitting his right winger (Mariner).

West Tigers v Knights

Sat 11/5, 3pm

Wicky’s breakdown – Another game that is likely to be played on a heavy track and with rain. Also with Ponga and Sezer missing + Api in doubt (named, but injury cloud) – it could be a game dominated through the middle of the field. The Tigers conceded a try to Mann through the middle and almost another (the Bunker took it away) – if Api is out, look out for Adam Elliott and Daniel Saifiti as potential big boppers to crash over!

Interestingly – looking at Supercoach Guns’ Try Map – this also points to middle forward tries. Both teams have scored and conceded tries in a relatively even spread across the field. With Ponga missing – neither side have a ‘superstar’ creative spine player. The closest would be Api! If he does play – look out for Stefano Utoikamanu, who is one of the best middle forward try scorers in the NRL.

Dragons v Rabbitohs

Sat 11/5, 5.30pm

Wicky’s breakdown – Latrell Mitchell returns for the Rabbitohs but they lose Cam Murray and half their regular team is missing for various reasons! Looking away from the obvious – another game likely to be played in heavy rain in Sydney, it’s obvious where to look for both sides’ preferred edges to attack from.

The Dragons have scored 66% of their tries on the right side, the most by any team on one side of the field! Ben Hunt is on the right and has more tries assists than anyone else. Lomax is back on the right wing – if you’re not scared off by the rain, put him in your multis, captain him in your Supercoach, do whatever you want because the Rabbits also happen to concede 45% of their tries on the left!

Funnily enough – the Rabbits score 57% of their tries on the left and the Dragons concede 50% of their tries on the right. With Trell back and Cody Walker and Jack Wighton on the left with AJ being a possible late in, who would back against left side tries here?!

Storm v Sharks

Sat 11/5, 7.35pm

Wicky’s breakdown – The Storm are missing Hughes and Papenhuyzen. Faalogo, who is a boom rookie, could also be a late out. If so – Meaney could go to Fullback. The Storm score 56% of their tries on the left and with Munster there, with no Hughes on the right – we expect this trend to continue!

Nicho Hynes has been super ball dominant in the last 2 weeks on the right side since Trindall (left side) has been out. Mulitalo has scored 0 tries in the last 2 weeks on the left. We think this will continue in what should be a tough affair. He could potentially be a sell in your Supercoach teams with 3 tough games coming up and don’t think he’s an auto pick in your multis either!
