Our key players to watch are Travis Head and Rohit Sharma. Both players are critical for their teams chances in the Powerplay and will set the tone for the rest of the batsmen. Head scored a crucial 50 early in the innings to get Australia off to a rapid start. We saw how crucial that was when scoring became much more difficult as the South African spinners came on. We discussed in the Semi Finals preview how crucial Rohit Sharma has been in setting the tone for the Indian batsmen – he also got India off to an impressive start against New Zealand.

When it comes to the bowlers from both teams – this is where India have a clear advantage. What will be fresh in most fans’ minds will be Australia’s dominant start against South Africa and the fact that India leaked 330 to New Zealand. Let’s not forget, though, that India bowled at Mumbai and the Aussies bowled in cloudy conditions. India have two world class spin bowling options and a seam attack on top of their game. Australia have 3 great quicks, however, none of them have had an excellent World Cup. Zampa had arguably been the bowler of the tournament in the group stages but where Shami got 7 wickets against NZ, Zampa had a forgettable outing on a pitch where the South African spinners looked excellent.

We mentioned in our podcast that this game is like the Panthers v Broncos Grand Final in the NRL this year! India have been perfect and any way you break this game down, it’s hard to see a weakness for Australia to exploit. However, Australia are never out of the fight. They do have an incredible attacking top 3, Maxwell who can do anything on his day and Zampa + the great pace trio. We reckon it’s be a relatively easy Indian win with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli leading the way for India. It promises to be a cracking contest!
