Value Picks

Tom Kohler-Cadmore @ $9,500. He’s 10/10 in our value ratings. He got run out by Hales in the last game but he’d scored 27 off 18 including 2 sixes on an incredibly tough pitch at the Sydney Showground. He now comes to the SCG with a chance to really stamp himself on the BBL. An absolute steal at $9,500.

Daniel Sams @ $18,500. Sams may not have as much to do with the bat with the Thunder having a noticeably better batting outfit. But he’ll play a crucial role with the ball. He’s one of the only players in the competition that can rival Matt Short and Glenn Maxwell for upside.

Fade Options

David Warner @ $18,000. He’s had an emotional farewell to test cricket and is literally flying in for this game. He’s an elite T20 batsman but we think it’s worth fading him at that price. Surely he can’t be 100% in terms of preparation?! Allows you to likely go for Smith – someone who’ll be opening the batting for Australia next week and hit two tons in last season’s BBL.

Smith and Sams means you do need to look for value elsewhere if you’re going to fit this team under the cap! There’s a chance Henriques gets a couple of overs in again with Curran gone for the season. SOK & Murphy are great cheap options – against the Thunder middle order, they could grab a couple of wickets and keep it tight. And as we mentioned, we love Kohler-Cadmore at that price.

Usually it’s a good idea to also think about how a game may pan out when you’re building your team. We’ve gone with Smith and Henriques and therefore stayed away from Thunder bowlers. Sams is in there – but with Sams you’re mainly hoping for junk time wickets in the last 3-4 overs. Abbott’s an elite, all time gun bowler in the BBL. Similar to Sams, we’re hoping he cleans up towards the end of the innings. If he does happen to clean up Warner & Hales – that’s a bonus and helps out TKC pick!
