NRL Round 15 Breakdown: Left v Right Edge Players

NRL Round 15 Breakdown: Left v Right Edge Players

Wicky, NRL Fantasy Scout & Kyle Bedford break down each side’s players by which side of the field they play on for every NRL game in Round 15 in 2024. Where do teams favour going to in attack? Where do teams leak most tries?

Whether it’s to decide your NRL Fantasy or NRL Supercoach Captain or to lock in the last leg of your multi – we have you covered!

You can check out all of Wicky’s content, tips and more here and you can follow NRL Fantasy Scout on Instagram for regular updates.

The Raiders conceding almost 50% of their tries through their left edge and the Cowboys having close to the worst defence in the comp this season. Straight away – you’re thinking Nanai. He’s scored a try in 24 of his 52 NRL games!

Manly v Dragons

Sun 16/6, 2pm

Wicky’s breakdown – 2pm game in dry conditions at Brooky, how good! The Dragons love going to their right side with Ben Hunt leading the way in attack – Zac Lomax has been in career-best form and we wouldn’t talk anyone out of bringing him into their SC teams or adding them to their multis! 56-27% split for right v left edge in attack for the Dragons in 2024.

Manly’s attack is a bit more interesting. Talau scored 4 tries on the left wing against the Panthers last round. The Dragons have conceded the most tries in the comp to middle forwards – we’ve been high on Sipley’s running game all season and he hasn’t scored since preseason. Hopefully this is the week Paseka or our big boy Sipley (who could get more mins with Aloiai out) crash over!

Knights v Panthers

Sun 16/6, 4.05pm

Wicky’s breakdown – The Knights have a 39-26% split for left v right in attack and the Panthers concede 56% of tries through the right edge in 2024! With Bradman Best returning at left centre for the Knights – he could be a great value play to score anytime this week. Remember this Panthers outfit is still missing Nathan Cleary and Liam Martin, two regulars on the right edge.

To’o Alamoti Sorensen Luai Schneider Martin Tago Turuva

For the Panthers – with Cleary still out and Luai looking to stamp his authority on the side, To’o (who scored 3 tries last week) seems a standout option again. Luai could potentially be playing for his Origin jersey (teams are announced after this game) – he could be a bit more selfish in attack with so much on the line.

Sharks v Dolphins

Thu 13/6, 7.50pm

Wicky’s breakdown – Hynes and Trindall are reunited for the Sharks. We wrote about Trindall’s return and the positive impact that should have on Mulitalo – maybe with their ‘normal’ spine back, Mulitalo will have more chances to get over the line this week. He’s scored 1 try in his last 7 games!

We have Tom Hazelton & Mark Nicholls on the bench – two of the most in-form middle forward try scorers in the comp too. Plath & Kerr have also had multiple tries and/or linebreaks this season and then there’s the OG Braden Uele – if you’re looking for a middle forward to crash over, this is the game!

Considering the Broncos have conceded 53% of tries through their left side – Walker may look to Gagai (right winger) again this week.

Raiders v Cowboys

Fri 14/6, 6pm

Wicky’s breakdown – These teams don’t have any clear trends for tries scored or conceded. The closest would be the Raiders conceding almost 50% of their tries through their left edge and the Cowboys having close to the worst defence in the comp this season. Straight away – you’re thinking Nanai. He’s scored a try in 24 of his 52 NRL games!

For the Raiders – we’re thinking Hudson Young. He’s scored in 6 of his 11 NRL games in 2024. He’ll want to put in a big performance to keep his Origin spot – he’s scored a try one in every 3 NRL games and his record at scoring the last try in NRL games is freakish – one in every 13 games!

Rabbitohs v Broncos

Fri 14/6, 8pm

Wicky’s breakdown – We were high on the Rabbitohs last week, especially Alex Johnston with Walker, Trell and Wighton all playing in the spine together. Well – Walker played on the right side and setup Jacob Gagai for a try instead! It bodes well for the Rabbitohs that their attack is potent on both sides now. Wighton scored a try, Walker scored two and Trell scored the first. They also get Cam Murray back this week. Considering the Broncos have conceded 53% of tries through their left side – Walker may look to Gagai (right winger) again this week.

For the Broncos, with no Walsh or Reynolds – we think Mam and Cobbo will see even more ball than usual. It also bodes well for them that Chee-Kam, Kennar and Jacob Gagai are defending together on the Bunnies’ right!

Note: Oates has been ruled out with Karapani taking his place. Whether he plays centre (with Cobbo wing) or replaces Oates directly is yet to be confirmed.

Wests Tigers v Titans

Sat 15/6, 3pm

Wicky’s breakdown – Please Des Hasler – move Foran back to the left or move David Fifita to the right so they can be together again! Against THIS Tigers outfit – Fifita could score a triple if they move Foran back to the left edge – they score 43% of their tries through the left edge in 2024, with their left winger scoring 10 tries (usually AKP).

Warriors v Storm

Sat 15/6, 5.30pm

Wicky’s breakdown – With Shaun Johnson back and Papenhuyzen and Munster still missing, an interesting angle here is DWZ. This game is in NZ and the bookies can’t split the teams – whether it’s adding him to your Supercoach team or your multis, we think the right edge of the Wahs is going to be their go to in attack again. TMM has been in good form for the Warriors, we even saw Montoya score a try a couple of weeks ago on the left wing! But even with this brief period without SJ, it’s 47-21% as the right v left edge split for tries scored for the Wahs in 2024.

Xavier Coates has played 10 games in 2024. In 5 games with Cam Munster as the left side half, he’s scored 6 tries including a hat-trick.

In 5 games without Munster, he’s only scored 2 tries. Wishart’s been the left side half the last 2 games and he’s made a linebreak in each game and scored 2 tries. Basically – replacing Munster with a running half has meant less quality ball for Coates. Add to that he now has Ieremia instead of Reimis Smith as the centre inside him. Perhaps more quality ball for Hughes and Katoa on the right?

Eels v Roosters

Sat 15/6, 7.35pm

Wicky’s breakdown – The Eels were atrocious last week on their left edge. Asi was at centre with Russell on the wing. This week it’s Russell in the centres with Sivo on the wing and Kelma Tuilagi as the 2nd rower. These 3 guys have not played a lot of football next to each other.

Who’s running at them? Oh it’s Joey Manu and Dom Young! With a gun creative half like Sam Walker feeding them the ball. Want some stats to back it up? The Eels have conceded 22 tries to right side centres and wingers – the worst defensive edge of any team in 2024.
