NRL Round 13 Breakdown: Left v Right Edge Players

Wicky, NRL Fantasy Scout & Kyle Bedford break down each side’s players by which side of the field they play on for every NRL game in Round 13 in 2024. Where do teams favour going to in attack? Where do teams leak most tries?

Whether it’s to decide your NRL Fantasy or NRL Supercoach Captain or to lock in the last leg of your multi – we have you covered!

Panthers v Dragons

Sat 1/6, 5.30pm

Wicky’s breakdown – The Panthers are the team most affected by Origin – missing 6 stars, as well as Nathan Cleary who has a long term injury. The Dragons are missing 3 players to Origin and have also lost Bird (injury) and Ravalawa (dropped). Looking at the graphic below – only Tago, Turuva, Suli and Flanagan have played most of the season in the roles we have them slated for this round, so we’ll stay away from reading too much into edge v edge stats!

Dolphins v Raiders

Sat 1/6, 7.35pm

Wicky’s breakdown – These sides don’t have any clear trends for tries scored and conceded from specific sides. The Dolphins are, however, in the top tier of teams who have scored tries through middle forwards along with the Sharks. Nicholls, Kerr & Plath especially have looked great in their partnership with their dummy half, Marshall-King.

Only 4 players have more try assists than Kodi Nikorima this season. And with Averillo now inside him, instead of glue-hands Farnworth, Isaako is a great option for Fantasy/Supercoach or your multis! Weekes and Whitehead on the right side for the Raiders have been a surprisingly good combo in the last 2-3 weeks.

Roosters v Cowboys

Sun 2/6, 4.05pm

Wicky’s breakdown – The Cowboys are missing 6 stars to Origin. Manu and Dom Young have looked electric on the right edge for the Roosters and they’ve retained Tedesco. It seems like such an obvious play to trade in and put the VC or C on one of those 3. Or put them in your multis. But the forecast is for significant amounts of rain on Saturday and Sunday – we actually think it could be a huge POD play to stay away from these guys as your VC or C.

At 33% – the Titans have the highest % of tries conceded through the middle. The Roosters have the lowest % of tries scored through the middle – but with the heavy track and rain around, we think guys like Terrell May and Siua Wong especially could be a nightmare to handle through the middle of the field!

Eels v Sharks

Thu 30/5, 7.50pm

Wicky’s breakdown – The Eels and Sharks have scored 46 and 45% of their tries on the left edge respectively. With Hynes (right) missing and Moses back (on the right) – it’ll be interesting to see how this impacts their attack!

When Trindall’s been playing on the left edge with Mulitalo – he’s scored 8 tries in 6 games. In 5 games without Trindall, Mulitalo has scored 1 try. Trindall returns for the Sharks on the left and Hynes is missing on the right – no prizes for guessing where we think the Sharks will go to in attack today! The Eels also concede 49% of their tries on the right edge. The return of Moses on that edge may help, but we’ll still back in the Sharks’ left edge.

Knights v Bulldogs

Fri 31/5, 8pm

Wicky’s breakdown – The Knights have won 4 games in a row since losing Kalyn Ponga. Their season-long stats still show a preference to the left edge – 42% of their tries have been scored on the left compared to only 21% on the right. They’re missing Bradman Best (injury) and Frizell’s still on the bench so Lucas and Pearce-Paul are the starting 2nd rowers.

The Dogs have conceded 61% of their tries through their right edge. And that’s with their Captain and arguably the best defensive centre in the Comp – Stephen Crichton, who will be missing this game due to State of Origin. On the left edge – they’ll be missing Kikau (Injury) and Burton (Origin).
