NRL: Round 7 Value Plays (Sunday)

NRL: Round 7 Value Plays (Sunday)

Seemingly always up against it, the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles begin their latest spell without Tom Trbojevic when they take on the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks on the Central Coast. It’s then statement time for the Wests Tigers. Surely, they can back one good win up with another and handle the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs to wrap up Round 7 of the NRL season.

Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles v Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks @ Central Coast Stadium

First Try-Scorer: Wade Graham – $34, Jorge Taufua – $10

With Matt Moylan returning to the fullback position we can expect to see an improvement in the Sharks attack. Down Wade Graham’s ($34 – BetEasy) left edge, in particular. Despite not seeing it in action for lengthy periods of late, the pair combined exceptionally well when on the field together. As perhaps the best triple-threat back rower in the NRL, Graham opens things up for Moylan. Likewise, Moylan’s pace and ball-playing do the same for Graham.

With the added option of Shaun Johnson skipping over to the left edge to put Graham through a gap, expect the Cronulla captain to be heavily involved on Sunday afternoon.

Perched out wide for the Sea Eagles, Jorge Taufua ($10 – Neds) is always an option. It’s an area Manly will target even while Tom Trbojevic sits on the sideline. With Cronulla’s defensive struggles through the middle of late, expect Manly to draw them in before shifting it wide and finding Taufua on the wing.

Draftstars Suggested Plays: Bryson Goodwin ($7,500), Brad Parker ($7,000), Tevita Vuna ($7,000)

There is no shortage of low-cost backline players to choose from in this one.

Bryson Goodwin, Brad Parker and Tevita Vuna are all flirting around the $7,000 minimum and all present as value plays.

Goodwin is perhaps the most intriguing of the trio on Cronulla’s left wing. With the Moylan/Graham combination set to reignite that side of the field, Goodwin is set to benefit. Our predictive model projects him to score 34 points.

Meanwhile, Parker has been named to start in the centres after managing just four minutes of action last week. The injury to Tom Trbojevic should result in Parker seeing more of the ball this week. He’s projected to score 29 points on Sunday evening. Tevita Vuna looked a lot better in his second NRL match to score 32.8 points last week. He proved a tough runner to handle breaking two tackles in his 138 running metres. Projected to score another 30 points this week, Vuna is a value option in the wing/fullback spot.

DFS Fade: Marty Taupau ($15,140)

Marty Taupau returns from injury for this one. Will he get straight back into the swing of things or take a moment to get back to his best? His projected score of 51 points is pricey at $15,140 and carries a little bit more risk in the uncertainty around how healthy he comes back.

Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs v Wests Tigers @ Bankwest Stadium

First Try-Scorer: David Nofoaluma – $9.50, Luke Brooks – $21

The Wests Tigers attack caught fire for 40 minutes last week. In hanging 34 points on the Cowboys in the first half, the Tigers took their foot off the pedal and cruised home. Michael Maguire will be filthy about that…

Luke Brooks ($21 – PointsBet) will need to be heavily involved to start this one if the Tigers are to repeat their first half flurry. He’s been relatively quiet since Benji Marshall was dropped from the side. However, Brooks has an opportunity to get on the front foot and run himself into some form against a poor Bulldogs outfit on Sunday evening.

There is no are worse area in the NRL than the Bulldogs’ left edge defence. They’ve conceded 15 tries down that side already this season and now face one of the form wingers in the competition in David Nofoaluma ($9.50 – Neds). Destructive with the ball in hand, a threat in the air and always on the hunt for an intercept, Nofoaluma will is sure to be sniffing around the try line in this one.

Draftstars Suggested Plays: Moses Mbye ($7,670), Elijah Taylor ($8,530)

Have the Wests Tigers finally figured out how to get the most out of Moses Mbye? Outstanding last week in handing out two try assists, having him take the ball a bit deeper and allowing him to make use of his ball-playing skills could work wonders for the Tigers attack. We saw it in action against the Cowboys:

Already a value option with his projected score of 34 points at $7,670, Mbye can clear it if the Tigers stick to this sort of play.

Meanwhile, Elijah Taylor has been named to play his first game since the NRL season resumed. Named as a utility, there is an element of risk to picking him up at $8,530. He’s sure to put in a lot of work defensively wherever he plays, though. Our predictive model projects Taylor to score 36 points in this one.

DFS Fade: Harry Grant ($16,900)

Round 3: 63.5
Round 4: 78.5
Round 5: 59.7
Round 6: 65.6

Harry Grant can’t keep this up, can he?

Now out to $16,900 – the most expensive player in this match – our predictive model projects Grant to suffer a dip this week to score just 48 points. He’s worth considering as a fade option at that price.
